Day 6 - A rant from one of THOSE people.

Upon hearing that I had deleted wheat and gluten from my life, a friend of The Man's commented, "she's not allergic, she's one of THOSE people". She argued that one does not suddenly become allergic to anything so therefore I must be one of those crazy people that think that gluten is the root of all evil, and on top of all that I'm just being a drama queen. (I'm paraphrasing here in deference to those of you that have more couth than this lout.) I didn't respond to her because my Mother and Mema always taught me that if you can't say something nice, hold your tongue. Well, ladies, I'm sorry, but this is my world and I need to vent. I will try to keep it clean, but no promises.

Yes, you ignorant, insensitive twit, I am one of those people now. I am one of those that is tired of having a tummy full of troubles, joints that swell and bones that ache like I'm 100,  and migraines for no reason that lay me out for a day or two. I'm one of those that is far too young to be this tired all of the time. I'm over being cranky  and depressed because I don't feel well ALL OF THE TIME. I haven't felt like me in months. Not sick per se, just not right. I am one of those that now has to read every label to search for the hidden wheat because I'm done feeling like crap. I'm one of those that now has to ask for ingredients at a restaurant to make sure I am not poisoning myself. I am one of those that can't have my favorite beer, or really good bread, or a bowl full of spaghetti and meatballs. I have to scrutinize everything I put into my body, including my supplements (all but one is okay), my toothpaste (switching from Crest to Colgate), my protein shakes (one is okay, one isn't).

Now, I don't think I'm so sensitive that I have to worry about every little thing, but I am for now so I can be sure that this is the problem. I'm not even sure that this is going to be the answer; it may end up that it has made no difference in how I feel and I have to start as square one again. But after talking to a couple of very knowledgeable people, this was the most logical first step in figuring it all out without running to a doctor.

So, I guess you are right. I am one of THOSE people. Feel free to roll your eyes at me when I ask if there is wheat in what you are serving. Snicker behind my back when I post a GF recipe to my FB page. I really don't care anymore. I want to be healthy and happy again, and if this is what it takes to get there, I embrace it. My troubles, hopefully, can be cured. Your apparent ignorance probably can't. So sorry that YOU are one of THOSE people :-(
